Origins of Ramen

Authentic Japanese Ramen noodles actually has origins in China! The word ramen is closely related to “la men” or “lo mein” which we know as the ever so popular noodle dish featured at many Chinese American restaurants. The idea of ramen comes from humble beginnings because it was a working class food that would be filling and very affordable. This is why traditional ramen only has a few thin slices of pork, combined with scallions and noodles. Who doesn’t feel quite full after a large bowl of freshly made ramen noodles? Now there are many modern add-ons that come in a bowl of ramen noodles, such as soft boiled egg, menma or bamboo shoot, veggies like cabbage, carrots and scallions, and let’s not forget about vegetarian options like tofu and shiitake mushrooms! The best ramen is always fresh ramen, which is why you should always come eat at the ramen shop right here in Washington Heights on 1 Bennett Avenue!
