CHILI IN THE HOUSE
We make our house chili oil from scratch every day. It comes from a Japanese tradition of making an “edible oil” or taberu rayu. It’s an spicy oil that has small chunks of flavor popping garlic, onion, chilis and many other flavors that goes perfectly on top of a bowl of freshly made ramen or to dip a fluffy pork bun inside. You can put this oil on anything, especially if you have some left over from your delivery or takeout order, you should definitely save it and put some on top of your pasta at home or on grilled pork or steak. Of course the best way to enjoy it is when it’s mixed into our house spicy miso broth accompanied by our freshly made ramen noodles to make the perfect balance of sweet, salty, and spicy filling and satisfying meal. Tampopo Ramen is known for being a casual and comfortable restaurant in Washington Heights and the house chili oil definitely contributes greatly to that feel.
